Music

Our church choir recently did Ray Boltz’ “The Anchor Holds”. It’s always been a song I like, but I’ve mostly heard it song as a solo all the way through. There is something different about hearing the chorus being sung by a group.

“The anchor holds
Though the ship is battered
The anchor holds
Though the sails are torn
I have fallen on my knees
As I face the raging seas
The anchor holds
In spite of the storm.”

Who couldn’t relate to that? Who doesn’t know someone who has lost a job, a house, a loved one? Who hasn’t gone through the ending of a dream or a relationship?

It’s a powerful image, isn’t it? Picture it. A small boat, bobbing alone among rough waves. The water washing up over the deck, the sails flapping in the wind.

How good it is to have something secure to hold us. How good it is to have an Anchor.
