Music

I’m a sucker for a death scene.

Just hearing the opening notes to “One Day More” can have me tearing up. By the time they get to “Tomorrow we’ll discover what our God in heaven has in store”, I’m gone.

The song that always gets me, however, is the King’s death in –The King and I-. It was on the Broadway Channel the other day. I was in the guest room folding laundry and I had to stop for the tears.

I’ve seen –Anna and the King- and know that it is a very powerful, very well done movie. But Yul Brenner and Deborah Kerr had me first.

He stands there, fists on hips, powerful and strong. He insists that she bow, yet gives her a house. He holds her close when they dance.

And when he dies, he breaks my heart.

Just hearing the music can set me off.

As good as Jodie Foster is, she can’t compete with that.
